Weight Plateaus & how can you overcome this?

Is your weight not going down on the weighing scale? Have you tried every possible fad-diet available from your resources? Is physical activity also not enough to reduce those extra kilos? It’s not something to fear but a moment to understand that your body requirements are changing.


Yes, you heard it right, your body composition & metabolism both have been affected. Poor sleep? No physical activity? Stressing a lot? These factors along with a poor diet lead your weight to reach its plateau. Too much of stress release Cortisol that slows down your weight loss. This condition also arises when your body adapts to the workout regime & the diet monitoring that you had followed. In this case, your dietitian & fitness trainer will revise & align your diet to your current body composition in terms of calories & macro-nutrients & exercise regime respectively. 

Your diet becomes redundant with the change in body composition. Other factors like nutrient deficiency of B12 & Vitamin D also hinder the weight loss process. Antibiotics (in case of flu), steroids & Oral contraceptive pills (in case of PCOS) also don’t let your body shed off those extra kilos. Also, one big reason for weight plateaus is relishing on deep-fried, excess sugars, consuming non-nutritious maida on a daily basis knowingly in roti, naans, bread or unknowingly from packaged foods like biscuits, ice-cream, etc. Frequent cheat meals add on extra calories to your body on a daily basis sometimes without providing any nutrition that your body needs. 

Weight stalls can also happen when you are on a weight loss regime. If you are gaining lean muscle mass & losing fat (inches), your weight will not move. But this doesn’t call for any disappointment instead its good that your body is getting rid of extra & unnecessary fat. Start tracking your body in the right manner. Ask your fitness trainer or your dietitian for more help. 


Meanwhile, it is also mandatory that you keep your stress levels in control. Too much of stress release Cortisol that slows down your weight loss. Stretches to relax your muscles & breathing exercises are proven to help you calm down & bust your stress. Sound sleep for 6-7 hours makes your weight loss a cakewalk.

Weight stalling is a part & parcel of your weight loss journey. You must identify this weight impedance and change your current diet, increase your fibre & water intake, reduce alcohol (if any) & must work upon your protein & exercise regime.
